Can I use windows to 8.1 Industry play Pro and other normal applications?

Question

My university gives me a key Industry Pro Windows 8.1 but not if I should change my Windows 7, all my work as well and can do the things I do now with computer worth me, but I have no idea. If anyone knows the difference with the normal desktop version would greatly appreciate it.

clear that you are able windows 7 like you can do everything you can do with eight industry widnows so here no matter what else you want esque games you play have compatibility
