The Samsung Galaxy S5 is a smartphone that belongs to the mid-range of the Samsung Mobile catalog, was launched in 2014 and managed to sell more than 10 million units in just 25 days. It works with Android 4.4.2 and is one of the models that has a lot of positive reviews for its design and performance.

However, from 2014 to today considerable time has passed and from so much use there could be certain problems with speed, applications and even the battery. The solution is simple: performing a hard reset or formatting it after so much time of use will reflect the potential that it used to have when we bought it fresh from the factory.

Next, we will present different ways to recover the maximum capacity of our device without many complications.

Methods

There are two very simple ways with which we can format our Samsung Galaxy S5, one is faster and more intuitive than the other, but it all depends on the state of our smartphone.

It should be noted that before executing any method to format our device , in any way, we must ensure that its battery is fully charged; Also, remove the SIM card and the MicroSD to avoid any unwanted inconvenience.

Also, keep in mind that depending on the version of the operating system that our Samsung S5 device has, the names of the options may vary a little, but they will always have the same function.

Hard reset (button combination)

When there is no way to interact with the main menu of our operating system and its options, or your device does not even show the main screen, then you must resort to a hard reset . The way to execute this method is through the buttons of your Samsung Galaxy S5, it is very simple, you simply must follow the steps detailed below:

  1. Turn off your device.
  2. Press the buttons: " VOLUME UP ", " START " (the button located below the screen) and " ON " without releasing them and at the same time, until the Samsung logo appears on the screen.
  3. While in the recovery menu, use the " Volume Down " button to select the " Wipe data / factory reset " option , then enter the option using the power button .
  4. Use the " Volume Down " button again to move to " Yes - delete all user data and press " On " again to select the option.
  5. When the Android terminal finishes the hard reset process , it will return to the menu where the main options are, there go back down with the " Volume down " button to " Wipe cache partition " and select it with the " Power " button .
  6. Now, we have our device completely clean, the last thing we have to do is select the first option " REBOOT SYSTEM NOW ".

Your Samsung Galaxy S5 device will reboot after executing these steps and it will be totally clean and working optimally as if it had just been taken out of the store.

From the settings

This method is recommended when our device begins to present difficulties to perform optimally but, in turn, it is still possible to interact with the settings menu offered by the operating system in the normal way.

  1. The first thing we will do is move to " Settings ", we can do it quickly by sliding with our fingers the top bar (where you see the remaining battery, notifications, mobile data, among others) down and then pressing the thread icon that normally appears next to the date in the upper right corner.
  2. Already being within the " Settings " menu , we will find a considerable amount of icons within categories; we scroll down until we find the category called " User and backup ' ", then we give the option "' Backup and restore ", which is represented by a yellow background icon.
  3. Looking at the menu, we find several options to backup and retrieve information through Google's servers, this is optional. In case we have not previously made a backup, we could mark the first option.
  4. Immediately afterwards, we press on “ Reset factory data “, a text will appear that describes what will happen to our device when pressing the button, “ Reset device ”, located at the bottom of the box.
  5. In case we have the screen lock activated, we simply put our assigned PIN code or password and click " Continue ".
  6. Finally, press " Delete all " and our Samsung Galaxy S5 will begin to factory reset.

After we have executed these steps, the device will reboot and we will have it back performing as new.

Now we have our smartphone completely clean and we simply have to restore all the backup we did before formatting it, either through Google's servers or manually using a MicroSD. If our phone was “ rooted ” and we want to continue using it in this way, then the rooting process must be repeated since, by default, it disappears when performing a hard reset .
