Install updates without PC: How to update your iPhone / iPod / iPad without connecting to iTunes

Surely more than one you wondered how you can install updates without a PC on your iPhone or iPad.

Certainly this some time ago was not possible. This was one of the innovations that came with iOS 5, the ability to upgrade our terminal without connecting to the computer through the system updates OTA (Over The Air, by air, according to its acronym in English).

Even so, first of all, we recommend that a backup of the terminal is done, it is done as then do the upgrade procedure.

The procedure for upgrading is easy. On our end, we have to go into the Settings app (we can see in the first image, fourth row, third app).

Within the application, on the menu, we have to go to the General option (which has the same icon the Settings app, in the second image), and within this option, choose "Software Update" (as we see in the third image, second option).

Once we have completed these steps, we arrive at the update screen, as we see in the fourth image. On this screen, we will indicate whether we have any update available for download (At the time of writing these lines, as already announced, came out recently update 6.1 iOS, so many have the pending update).

This screen, as we see, gives us some information about the update. The first data we can see, are we going to upgrade (in the image shown is iOS 6.1), the provider of the update (which for now is always Apple, and probably will remain so), and the size of the ( On this, Do not be surprised if you have multiple devices and each has a different size, since the update is different depending on the device). Similarly, we find a link "More information", in which we can see the details of the update.

When you click on the "Download and Install" button that appears on the screen, it will show the license agreement, we must accept, and after that begin downloading the update. Normally, when you finish this download, we will indicate that at one point the terminal will restart to begin installation.

NOTE: Because updates are usually large, it is always mandatory to have a Wi-Fi for download. Similarly, the terminal will force us to have at least 50% battery before beginning installation (Or failing that, be connected to the mains). In our case, we recommend in addition to at least the 50% upgrade to the terminal connected to the charger, so that might occur.

When you click on the button to download and install, see the fifth picture. A progress bar, indicating where we will upgrade step being performed appears. The update is completely discharged, and after that, enters the preparation step for updating.

Once everything is ready, the system will alert us with a window to be restarted to proceed to install the update. Verify the contents of the update, to ensure that has been downloaded successfully, and after that, the terminal will restart and family can see progress bar has always appeared with iTunes, but in this case, the process will be faster and also not depend iTunes itself to do so.

Once the update is complete, the terminal will start with the new version, and we will have the entire process. In this way, we can install updates without PC. And with this, we have only enjoy our terminal and improvements to bring the upgrade to the latest version of software installed recently.

NOTE: Occasionally, and such has happened in this update of iOS 6.1, the terminal may ask us iCloud password. It is therefore interesting to have this information at hand, to complete the process properly, when you upgrade. Also, after completing the upgrade, you can require that we have an active Wi-Fi connection to complete the setup proces
