If your computer is configured to dual boot with Windows and a different operating system, a file named Bootsect.dos is created on the computer. If you want access to this file for advanced control over its two operating systems simultaneously, you must find him first. The file is not always located in the same directory on all computers. To compound the problem, Bootsect.dos is a hidden file. To find Bootsect.dos, you need to know is how to view and search hidden files.

  1. Click the "Start" button in Windows and select "Control Panel".
  2. Click "Appearance and Personalization".
  3. Click "Folder Options".
  4. Click the "View" tab.
  5. Click "Advanced".
  6. Click to select the "Show hidden files, folders, and drives".
  7. Click "OK". The team is now able to show hidden files.
  8. Click the "Start" button and select "PC".
  9. Click the search field located at the top right of the station window.
  10. Type "Bootsect.dos" in the search field and press the "Enter" key. The team will begin searching the Bootsect.dos file because it is not always located in the same directory on all computers. If no search results, the team has no Bootsect.dos file.
  11. Double-click the "Bootsect.dos" file to open the file for editing a DOS window.
