Good morning,

I would ask an opinion ... for compatibility of some programs I'm thinking of asking someone expert to install my windows 7, 8 or 10 on my new iMac (dual core 1.6 GHz 1TB hard disk, RAM 8GB), that is, to divide the hard disk to have two operating systems: OS X and Windows ... but my question is:

Will it affect the performance of the machine?  Will it not slow? I think not put many large files; I keep everything on an external drive

Thanks!!!

If the hard disk performance particionas will not lose since they operate as two separate things, you just lose space on your hard disk (the one for Windows). It is obvious that if you have to take precautions because when windows is very exposed to viruses, which of course does not affect the Mac system, only windows.

I also have the need to use windows but small programs, so for me it was easier to use a virtual machine where I run Windows from Mac using VMWare Fusion, as if it were another program, but I've also seen it work with VirtualBox ( which is free).

Ah well, excellent, in fact I need the windows for larger programs like AutoCAD, Revit, 3ds max

not anything that slows you can rest assured, Macs come with an application q is called bootcamp that is precisely for that to install windows

in fact you do not need a technician to do it you can do it yourself at home, because it is literally pop in the disc and follow the wizard.

Hello wikiandroid, as well you comment there are 2 options, virtualized through Parallels or virtual box (that is, run it as a program in OSX) or install it using Boot Camp Assistant, in this case a separate partition is done and initiate Windows system without relying on OSX.

If you want to use programs such as Autocad, 3D Studio Max Revit or would not recommend virtualices in doing so you have to share resources between Windows and OSX (processor, RAM and graphic memory) and not take 100% of the hardware.

Hello wikiandroid, windows tanbien work a lot with my MBP (* .exe files, for example), use VMWare Fusion virtual disk and in no way affects the performance of my Mac. As stated quelzatcoalt just be careful with viruses!
Greetings.
