To prevent your PC from being infected by viruses, spyware and other infections, is necessary to protect either the PC.
To do this we must keep two things in mind: 1). Having good programs installed to protect the PC 2). Be cautious. Indeed, the first defense is the user himself. The machine a cautious user is less likely to be infected.

Programs to protect your PC

  • Free Antivirus:
    • Antivir Personal (for XP and Vista)
    • AVG (for XP and Vista)
  • Antivirus Payment:
    • Kaspersky
    • BitDefender
  • Firewall (firewall):
    • Kerio (for XP)
    • ZoneAlarm Pro 2009 (for XP and Vista)
  • Anti-Spyware:
    • Spybot search and destroy
    • Ad-Aware
  • Cleanliness:
    • CCleaner
  • Analyze security:

Important: It is not recommended to install two antivirus or two firewalls on the same PC. Regarding Spybot and Ad-Aware, they work very well as a complement to a virus and can be installed on the same PC.

Some preventive measures

  • Being a responsible user
    • The first defense against infection is the same user. It is therefore essential to regularly update your operating system, browser (Firefox and Internet Explorer) and the Java console. Moreover, preferably using Microsoft Update instead of Windows Update. To do this go to the site to Windows Update and follow the instructions. Microsoft Update will then who will have the priority. The advantage of this over Windows Update, is that not only upgrade the operating system but all Microsoft applications like Microsoft Office, the MSDE extension, etc.
  • Beware of ActiveX
    • Beware the ActiveX control is the main gateway for hackers. So pay attention and think a bit before accepting an ActiveX control. We can find the most hazardous sites illegal downloads and cracks. So you do not automatically accept all ActiveX controls and prevents entering dangerous sites.
  • Having a bootable CD
    • As a precaution, I suggest that you always have a bootable CD. This bootable CD runs before the system and therefore before the rootkits and other viruses that can be activated by. Among the bootable CD have such a UltimateBootCD and Anthesis .
  • Taking care of Rootkits
    • Rootkits are highly sophisticated malware. One of its features is that they are invisible to virus scanners. To protect against this threat is necessary to use several specialized tools simultaneously. I recommend the following anti-rootkits: GMER , Rootkit Hook Analyzer ,HookExplorer , RootkitRevealer , read the article before you download.
  • Monitor the HOST file
    • I recommend you watch very often the HOST file. To view the HOST file, click the Start> Run menu and type the following command: notepad C: \ WINDOWS \ system32 \ drivers \ etc \ hosts .If everything is OK only the information should appear "127.0.0.1 localhost" (without quotes)
  • Install LSP Explorer
    • As a precaution against possible damages to the LSP (besides the Internet) after a virus problem, I suggest you install LSP Explorer from Lavasoft. This tool not only allows repair the LSP layer but also removes malwares introduced into the network layer of Windows and ejected.
  • Monitor System Startup
    • Use StartupRun shows and lets you disable all programs that start automatically. Like most malware are charged to Start system, this allows to identify and disable them.
  • Protect yourself from Phishing
    • Protect yourself from Phishing paying attention before you click on a URL sent by email. Find out from where the email before clicking.
  • Put a password
    • Put a password to each account. To add a password:

Start Menu> Control Panel> User Accounts> Create a password for your account. Now ponle a password to your account. Do the same with the other accounts.
