Who today does not have a Gmail account? The truth is that just being some sort of hermit, is that with 15 GB free that are currently taking place, there are many people that used to store large files, whether for personal use or even as backups. But there is a point in that space runs low when we abuse that ability. And since Gmail does not show us the weight of messages, it can be tricky trying to do it without any tricks you give us things.

And the truth is that there are tricks. You can highlight two very simple.

Erase and Sync via IMAP

The first and heavier if we have thousands of mails, is set up Gmail as IMAP box in a mail program on the computer, is Outlook, Mail, Thunderbird, today they all support the IMAP protocol, which allows us down a copy of webmail content and keep it in sync with the computer.

Thus we can set up our account on the computer and not only make us a copy of all online content, but we can also see and what mails are heavier, and when deleted using IMAP, also be removed from Gmail, releasing the space on the account.

Use commands to find heavy Gmail mails
gmail buscar
gmail search
Gmail supports a number of commands that can be used in the search mail account to filter messages based on different characteristics.

There is a command that allows you to filter mails with attachments (has: attachment) and another that allows searching by weight Megas (larger_than). There's even another to find the ones that arrived before a certain date (before), so we can combine them to find the ones that are really heavy and we want to permanently delete.

For example:

has: attachment larger_than: 10M before: 2014/09/01

With this command we could find all the mails that have attachments, weighing a total of over 10 Megas and have been received prior to September 2014.
