The protocol Secure Sockets Layer (SSL , Secure Sockets Layer) allows the establishment of secure communications on the Internet for activities such as web browsing, using email, instant messaging and other data transfer systems . If you enable SSL connection , Google will force the protocol secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol ( HTTPS Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) when users access most of the services Google Apps. SSL varies depending on the service and available for Gmail , Google Chat , Calendar, Google Drive, Google Sites and Google Groups for Business. Remember that SSL access is not available to Google Video for Business and desktop client for Google Talk.

The advantage of SSL is that it provides greater security for your users. If your users will have access to Google Apps using an internet connection that is not secure , for example, through a public wireless network or unencrypted , there will be an increased risk of interception of your accounts. Secure connections prevent this from happening by protecting the session cookie. By " interception session cookie" we refer to when an imposter obtains unauthorized access to cookies and takes control of a legitimate session while this is ongoing access .

However, due to the fact force the use of HTTPS for users, Gmail could slow down. Also, keep in mind that if you enable SSL , you can not see the mail in the Gmail gadget home of Google Apps since messages are not transferred via SSL technology . If you trust the security of your network, you can disable this feature when it suits . With the feature disabled , users access to Google Apps through the hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP, Hypertext Transfer Protocol).

To enable this feature:

Log into the admin control panel of Google Apps.

Click Domain settings .

On the General tab, in the SSL section , check the box next to Enable SSL.

Click Save Changes.
If forces the HTTPS protocol, users can not disable HTTPS on your own. However, if you force it , users can disable it at any time. Remember that some Google services like Google Drive, use HTTPS by default but do not enable SSL. Also consider that from version 13 , Google
