1-If your Mac has a version of Mac OS X 10.7 or later (check it by clicking on the apple in the upper left corner of the screen> About This Mac), you can not find the installation disk possibly because I did not have. To format, make sure you're connected to the internet and restart the computer. Hold cmd + R while it is turning.

2-They appear several options. Select "Reinstall OS X" and click Continue. Go by following the instructions on the screen, and when you have to select a disc, if more than one, choose where you installed OS X.

3-Do you have an older version of Mac OS X? Do not worry, you can also format your computer. The solution here is to create your own boot disk (an external hard drive or a DVD, for example).

4-First, download a disk image from the Internet (Google searches the Mac you want and some keyword "download" or "torrent"). It must be a dmg file, whose validity can check in Applications> Utilities> Disk Utility> First Aid. Dmg file Drag the left panel, click on it and "Verify Disk". If no error occurs, is that all is well. You can quit Disk Utility.

5-Double click on the dmg file. The image is mounted (a process that can take a while, be patient).

6-When the image is completely assembled, re-Utilities disk and the Restore screen, drag the dmg to "Origin" image. Connect the external device to which you want to mount the boot disk (with a minimum of 8 GB free) and drag it from the desktop to "Destination". Enable "Erase Disc".

7-And you're done with this you've formatted your Mac without using a CD.

Formatting a Mac without CD?

What we must first do is confirm that we have OS version installed. To do this, click on the apple at the top left corner of your screen and click on where it says "About this Mac".

format a mac no cd
If your version of the operating system is Mac OS X 10.7 or higher, then follow these steps:
Make sure you are connected to the Internet when formatting a Mac, and restart the computer. While this is turned on, we press and hold cmd + R.
A screen will appear with several options. Select the option that says "Reinstall OS X" and click on "Continue". Now all we have to do is follow all the instructions that tells us.

If for some reason we have more than one hard disk, when selecting one, we have to choose the hard disk where is hosted our OS X.
But if we have an older version, we create our own boot disk, either on the hard disk or DVD.

The first thing to do is download an image of your operating system. This will be done, searching in Google, via direct download or by torrents (I recommend using the last option). Recall that should be a .dmg file extension. We may check its validity heading to Applications> Utilities> Disk Utilities> First Aid. Move the file to the panel on the left and you click on it, select the "Verify Disk" option. If you give us mistake is that everything works as it should, and can exit Disk Utility.

What we must do now is to double-click the .dmg file to mount the image. Be patient, this process may take several minutes.
When we have our mounted image, we must re-access Disk Utility and the Restore section, we drag our dmg image to the Source tab.

Connect an external device, in which we will mount the image of our boot disk, probably need at least 8GB free and drag to Destiny. Enable Erase Disk.
We hope this tutorial has been amazing a great help and there are no more doubts as formatting a Mac without CD. For any questions or queries can leave a comment below
