No matter how well we take care of our batteries, it very often happens that they give us a little trouble. Among the problems that can be encountered, that of a battery that discharges too quickly.

IPv6-Android-batterie-drain

A battery that no longer displays normal autonomy is inappropriate, isn't it? The reasons are many. This bad form may be due to bad habits of the user. But not always. It often happens that it is other elements, or simply that the battery has reached the end of its life.

In any case, know that on an Android smartphone, you can follow the consumption of your battery live and see where the problem may come from. To do this, simply go to Settings then Battery.

There you will have a live graph of your consumption, with the most greedy resources first. From there, you have a complete overview and can identify the source of the problem. But this is only a quick diagnostic tool and not everything is listed there. You're in luck, we thought about all this for you. Here are 10 reasons why your battery is draining too quickly.

Common Reasons:

  1. You have a screen problem
  2. An update went wrong
  3. You use power-hungry apps
  4. You use a power management app
  5. You are using a task killer or app cleaner type app
  6. One or more applications are freaking out
  7. Google play services are giving you trouble
  8. Your charger is faulty
  9. You are not using a suitable charger
  10. Your battery is at the end of its life

YOU HAVE A SCREEN PROBLEM

It's no secret that screens are the biggest consumers of energy. If the manufacturers try to optimize all that, they remain greedy. And that's normal since they are the interface between the user and the software. Moreover , the size of the screens is constantly getting bigger , the energy requirements are high.

Thus, in normal times, a screen should represent on average 15% of your total energy consumption. The larger the screen, the greater the definition and the greater the consumption. But the battery being larger in large formats, it compensates. In short, at 15% we are good.

If your screen is more than 20% of your total power consumption, then there is a problem. If this is a recognized problem you can therefore juggle the brightness or configure it in automatic mode (the brightness adapts to the light around you). While waiting to see the manufacturer deploy an update that fixes all this. You will probably gain a few minutes or even a few hours of battery life per day.

AN UPDATE WENT WRONG

It's rare, but it happens. Some smartphones may experience some battery life issues following a software update . Manufacturers are quickly informed but while waiting for a fix, we have to deal with it.

In fact, those updates gone wrong are going to show up as “Android System” in your battery manager. Normally, it accounts for 3-4% of power consumption. If the percentage is higher then there is a problem.

Unfortunately for this concern there is no miracle solution. All you can do is factory reset your smartphone . You may be lucky enough to revert to an earlier version of Android.

YOU USE POWER-HUNGRY APPS

Still on your little scan tool built into Android, you will definitely see a number of apps popping up. If they are at the top of the list, it is because they are terribly greedy in energy. And that's not good at all.

The best-known application of its kind is Facebook . It is still impossible today to have an optimized app. Facebook drains a lot of battery, which is why Facebook Lite is recommended by the way. But this is not the only application, there are a lot of them.

This is why it is recommended before installing an application to take a good look at the comments on Google Play to check that the energy consumption is not a huge defect. And if you have already installed it, delete it, it will do your smartphone a lot of good.

YOU USE A POWER MANAGEMENT APP

You chose Android because it's a free and open OS that allows developers to come up with great apps like those to manage your energy consumption.

These applications that boast of improving the autonomy of your smartphone are simply to be avoided. Certainly, their principle is formidable. Who would complain to see someone promise to increase the autonomy of their smartphone with just a few clicks?

The problem is that these applications supposed to improve the autonomy of your smartphone will in most cases consume even more energy than if they were not installed . So run away from these programs, they won't do you any good.

YOU ARE USING A TASK KILLER OR APP CLEANER TYPE APP

Like power management apps, Task Killer and App Cleaner won't do you any good . The promise of these applications: automatically close applications running in the background and empty the cache to gain autonomy.

There are two problems with these apps. First, closing applications in the background does not improve autonomy, on the contrary. An app that is opened for the first time will retrieve data from the ROM and load it into the RAM.

If we automatically close this whole process starts again each time. If we leave running in the background, when we open the app again we go directly to the RAM and we save energy.

Second problem: like energy management applications, Task Killer and App Cleaner are real sinkholes . They consume monstrous energy that is widely felt over a full day. Avoid therefore.

ONE OR MORE APPLICATIONS ARE FREAKING OUT

Although it's not common, it does happen. Sometimes you have one or more apps that work just fine. And then all of a sudden, disaster strikes. The developers updated their app and forgot to optimize it.

As a result, one or more of your applications that have been running like clocks until now become real sinkholes in terms of energy consumption. In this case, do not hesitate to contact the developer and report the problem via Google Play. And while waiting for the problem to be fixed, delete the application.

GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES ARE GIVING YOU TROUBLE

Google Play Services is what allows Google apps and services to work and sync to your smartphone. But like some applications, these services are not always well optimized. And it's still your battery that suffers.

Two solutions are available to you. First, delete the cache. To do this, go to Settings / Applications / All / Google Play Services. You can take advantage of this to uninstall updates. If it still doesn't work, download and install an APK file of the latest version from Google Play Services. And if not, you can always consult our little file on the subject .

YOUR CHARGER IS FAULTY

Apart from these software issues, it is also possible that your battery is draining too fast due to hardware issues. So look on the side of your charger which may be faulty.

Chargers as they age may be less effective. The plugs of the mini USB or USB-C socket can be damaged by removing and connecting the charger. The accumulator may also no longer be as efficient.

To check this point, nothing complicated, recharge your smartphone with another charger, new if possible . If your battery lasts longer, you have found the problem.

YOU ARE NOT USING A SUITABLE CHARGER

You have a new charger but the battery does not hold a charge. It is then possible that you are using an unsuitable charger. Please note, we do not say that you must have an official charger from the manufacturer of your smartphone. Absolutely not.

But it is still recommended to choose the right charger according to your smartphone. Because not all smartphones are the same. Check the amperage and the power of the charger and especially if it corresponds to European standards.

It is easy on the web to find chargers that are very affordable but which ultimately turn out to be totally ineffective. Worse, they can even blow up your smartphone. So if your battery is discharging quickly, the problem can also come from there. The solution: a test with a new compatible charger.

YOUR BATTERY IS AT THE END OF ITS LIFE

Sometimes we look complicated but ultimately the problem is simple. What if the battery was simply out of breath? At the end of life ? This is a possibility not to be overlooked.

Your battery is designed for a certain number of charge cycles. After exceeding the maximum threshold, the battery will degrade over time and more and more quickly. Two solutions are available to you.

Either you have a smartphone with a removable battery in which case you can simply order a new battery. Be careful, choose an official battery this time and nothing else.

If your smartphone does not have a removable battery, you can either try to disassemble your terminal to replace it yourself (for some models it's quite simple) or go through a repairer. It may cost you a certain amount of money, but it will always be less than a new smartphone.

So much for this complete point on the reasons that can explain the fact that your battery is discharging too quickly. Of course, as you know, using each will more or less save your smartphone battery. Do not hesitate to follow our advice to take good care of it before it shows some signs of weakness.
