One of the best ways you can improve your computer's performance by optimizing the unit. Windows includes features to help optimize the different types of units that teams use today. No matter what type of unit you use your computer, Windows automatically selects the optimization that is suitable for her.

By default, Optimize units, previously called Disk Defragmenter runs automatically following a weekly schedule. However, you can also optimize your computer drives manually.

To optimize the drives manually
  1. To open Optimize units, flick your finger from the right edge of the screen, click Find (or if you use a mouse, pointing to the upper right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down and then beam Click Search ) writes Defragment in the search box, and then press or click on Defragment and optimize the units .

  2. In State , tap or click the drive you want to optimize. (The column type media reports what type of unit is optimized).

  3. To determine whether it is necessary to optimize the unit, press or click Analyze .  You might request you to provide an administrator password or to confirm your choice. Administrator permission required

After Windows has finished analyzing the unit, check the column Current Status to see if you need to optimize your drive. If the drive is defragmented more than 10%, you should optimize it now.

  4. Press or click Optimize .  You might request you to provide an administrator password or to confirm your choice. Administrator permission required

The optimization of a unit will probably take from several minutes to several hours to complete, depending on their size and degree of optimization required. You can still use your computer during the optimization process.

Notes

  • If another program is using the drive, or is being applied formed by using a different file system NTFS, FAT or FAT32, can not be optimized.

  • Network drives can not be optimized.

  • If a drive does not appear Optimize units, probably due to containing an error. First attempt to repair the unit and then return to Optimize units to try again. For more information, see "To repair a unit" at the end of this article.

To change the scheduling optimization

  2. Tap or click Change settings .  You might request you to provide an administrator password or to confirm your choice.Administrator permission required

  3. Do one of the following:

    • To disable the scheduled optimization, uncheck the scheduled execution .

    • To change the frequency of the scheduled optimization with frequency , press or click the drop-down list and then click Daily , Weekly or Monthly . The default setting for optimization is weekly and runs for Automatic Maintenance.

    • To choose the units you want to include in or exclude the scheduled optimization of this, along with units , press or click Choose , check or uncheck the boxes next to the drives, and press or click OK . You can also clear theAutomatically optimize new units if you do not want new units are added to the scheduled optimization. If Windows can not optimize a unit, the unit will not be offered as an option for automatic maintenance.
