Surely many experts in the field seem to them a fairly simple matter, but we still get occasional many questions about how to install a ROM on your Android. We will make an explanatory post, not focused on any particular terminal (as there may be differences) and hopefully all doubts remain unresolved.

First, root

To install a ROM first thing you need is to have root access on the terminal. The way to achieve this root access differs from one terminal to another. It is best to seek the method HTCMania or XDA Developers for our terminal in particular.
The root access is required and we will make substantial changes to our terminal, and therefore we need privileged access. Manufacturers will not, in principle, without any knowledge can tinker with the terminal, so you have to use third-party methods to obtain such access.

Change the recovery

Next we need to change the ROM is to change the recovery. The recovery allows access to very advanced terminal functions in a parallel boot. My personal recommendation is ClockWorkMod, one of the most popular works in many terminals.
To install this recovery must look in Google Play and install ROM Manager. The free version is enough. Now open ROM Manager and from within this application we can install the latest version of the recovery in question.

Make a backup

With the recovery changed, and before launching into installing a new ROM, the next step is to make a fundamental backup in case something goes wrong. We have two types of backups that we can do the full ROM and applications. Both are recommended.
The backup of all our Android is through recovery or, more simply, from the ROM Manager. These types of backups are called Nandroid backup. From the ROM Manager will say we want to make a backup of the ROM and automatically reboots into recovery mode and starts backing up.

Besides this I recommend making a backup of all applications, and best for this is to use Titanium Backup. With Titanium Backup you can make a backup of all our applications and data, and is fundamental to restore everything once we have the new ROM, because the mobile will be completely reset.
If we have the paid version of Titanium Backup is not necessary to backup all applications as we can extract this information Nandroid backup we did ROM Manager. The five euros for Titanium Backup Pro save us much time.

Install the ROM

Once you have root, recovery and backups, the next step is to install the ROM. Of course, the first thing is get a ROM for our terminal. To do this again or recommend HTCMania XDA Developers, as there are wires per terminal and can read a lot. The typical question is which is better, but the answer is complicated. It depends on what we are looking for: functionality, appearance, fluidity ... each terminal and each user is different.

With our ROM installation is discharged through the recovery or directly from the ROM Manager. It is quite simple and should always tell you to do a complete wipe and wipe the Dalvik Cache. In the ROM Manager ask all the time, so it's pretty simple.

It is important to have enough battery or connect it to the mains, since a battery failure in the installation process can be dangerous.
The installation process does not last long, and then restart your terminal. This restart takes quite, so do not impacientéis is normal as it has to generate enough additional information. Toca, in this case, wait.

In some ROMs we are asked us to install separately Google applications, since for legal issues not integrated into the ROM itself. In this case we install the ROM from recovery and immediately after Google applications (which we will download in the same place where the ROM was). It is best to carefully read the documentation of the ROM you want to install.

Restore our applications

Once we restart a terminal like new, with factory settings. We must tell our Google account and I recommend saying no to the question of whether you want us to restore applications from Google Play, and we're going to do from Titanium Backup.
Once this is done we installed from Google Play Titanium Backup and restore our applications and data from them. The process is easier if you have the paid version as everything is automatic and free installation must accept one by one.

conclusions

Having done this we have our new ROM with everything exactly as we had before. It only remains to explore our new ROM and enjoy your options and appearance. The first time there is always more fear, more uncertainty, but once you install the first insurance ROM that is not the last.
