I test a lot of connected devices that I associate with my Google account when they are compatible. I then return these products, others take their place. Before returning them, I always perform the same operation: I disconnect my account and I apply the factory settings. Sometimes I forget... This could also be your case if you resell equipment having forgotten to disconnect it from your Google account. Fortunately, it is still possible to delete devices that are still connected. Here's how.
Google retains device associations without limit
All connected devices with Google Nest, Android TV, Google TV, or Chromecast must be linked to a Google Account. The association is made through the Google Home or Google Assistant mobile applications .
Once a device is connected to your Google account, it's forever! This association never ends, Google will never ask you if this association should be revoked.
You can of course remove this association at any time from the Google mobile applications or directly from the settings of certain devices.
But what to do when this device is no longer in your possession? Also, do you really know which devices are currently connected to your Google account? I will explain how to proceed.
View all devices connected to your Google account
This information is not accessible from Google mobile applications. You have to go to the Google site, in your personal space. To access the complete settings of your Google account, go to this address .
You must then select the Security link in the left column. The first elements relate to recommendations, recent activity or the last connections. Scroll down until you see the two frames we're interested in: your devices and third-party apps .
Delete devices still connected to your Google account
Go to the Manage Devices link . A new page opens which lists all the devices connected to your account in the form of tiles. Each device is accompanied by an icon representing it.
Select More details for each device you want to disconnect. A dedicated page gives more information about the affected device as well as the date it was first associated with your account. The Disconnect button allows you to permanently remove the association of this device from your account.
If this device is still in your possession, Google recommends going to its settings, in its own menu, and manually disconnecting it from your Google account. It's cleaner that way. Obviously, if you no longer have the device, you have no choice but to press Sign out .
This Nvidia Shield TV is no longer connected to my account. But I still own it. When I turn it on next time, since it's running Android TV, it will ask me to sign in to my Google account again. It will again be present in this list of devices associated with my Google account.
Remove third-party apps that still have access to your Google Account
Go back and this time select the Manage third-party access link . Here is the list of applications that use your Google account, either to log in or to share voluntary information. You can already browse this list and remove any applications that you no longer use.
But some products connected to your account are also in this list, not in the device list.
This is for example the case of this Denon DHT-S416 soundbar. Difficult to know why it is here and not in the list of devices. Still, she has full access to my account when I no longer have it, it was a test copy. It surely depends on how the device connects to the Google account.
So I hit the Remove Access button to remove its association with my account. An intermediate window indicates that this deletion, which can be described as "wild", could impact my entire system of Google connected devices.
No longer having the device in my possession, I have no choice and I press OK to delete it. I reassure you right away: I have already performed this operation many times without it having any impact on my Google system.
In conclusion
You now know how to view the list of devices connected to your Google account. Above all, you know how to delete them so that Google forgets them forever. Remember to consult the list of devices and the list of third-party applications where connected products are sometimes hidden.
