While I was uploading a module to drupal from the admin panel I am getting

The specified file temporary://filename could not be copied, because the destination directory is not properly configured. 

error. How can I fix this this? How can I get rid of this problem?

This problem occurs because you did not set upload configuration properly. In order to solve this problem

Go to Configuration -> Media -> File System and Change Temprorary folder name from /tmp to tmp

Wow, this helped immediately! i had sites/default/tmp as the temp folder, which came as default and seemed to make sense. After changing it to "tmp", the error went away.
