If there is some file corruption in Windows Update, you may receive an error message 0 × 80080008 when trying to install Windows updates through Microsoft Update.
This problem usually occurs because the Wups2.dll file that is included in the latest version of Windows Update is installed incorrectly or has been registered.
To solve this problem, you may need to make sure you have the latest version of Windows Update Agent installed on the computer.
You can download the
KB949104 here for your operating system version.
Download and install the Windows Update Agent. To troubleshoot Microsoft Windows update, first run the Troubleshooter Windows Update, for systematic and correction control. (Installation may solve the problem).
If this does not help, you can try to re-register the DLL in question.
To do this, open an elevated command prompt and type one by one the following commands, and press [Enter].
Type the following to stop the Windows Update service:
net stop wuauserv
Type the following to re-register the DLL file in question
regsvr32% windir% \ system32 \ wups2.dll
Finally, restart the Windows Update service.
net start wuauserv
