Why is my wireless card acting strangely after the blue screen?

If your wireless network card acts irregularly or stops working after adding a device to the wireless network, you may receive an error message on a blue screen containing: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. To resolve this issue, update the driver for your wireless card, or disable the function that causes this behavior.

SYMPTOMS

These are the common symptoms that you may encounter:

Erratic behavior of your wireless card.
Exclamation mark on Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter under Network Adapters in Device Manager.
A message indicating that the connection was successful, but really has not done any.
A message indicating that the system could not connect to the wireless network while a connection exists.
REASON

The blue screen and the resulting irregular behavior of your wireless network card is caused by a new feature in Windows 7 called Network host. This function enables two different wireless network connections simultaneously. The function is automatically enabled if you try to add a device to your wireless network in the Control Panel.

SOLUTION

You can choose one of the following options to solve this problem:

Option 1 - Windows Update

Click Start, and type action center in the search box and then press the ENTER key.
Click Windows Update, and then install the updates available by clicking Install Updates. If you do not see any updates available, click Check for updates.
If a wireless controller available between updates is not listed, use one of the other two options described below.

Option 2 - Upgrade your wireless driver from the Web

Connect the AC adapter
Visit the Download Center support website of Acer.
Enter your model name and select your product from the list of suggested models.
Select your operating system from the menu and click Confirm (Check).
Scroll down to locate the Wireless LAN driver and click on the orange icon next to it.
Click Save and select where you want to download the file.
For more information on how to install the downloaded driver, please visit Installing a downloaded driver on Windows Vista or Windows 7

Option 3 - Disable Network host function

Click Start, and type Command Prompt in the search box.
Click the right mouse button on the icon Line command, and then select Run as administrator.
Type netsh wlan September hostednetwork mode = disallow, and then press the ENTER key.
If you run the command, the following message appears: The host network is set to disallow. If any other message appears, retype the command.
You have successfully disabled Network host function.

MORE INFORMATION

In case you need to re-enable the network host, perform the same steps as in Option 3, but replace the text by typing netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode = allow in step 3.
