Surface is designed to display the screen in landscape orientation when you type in a Surface cover or an external display is used.

Step 1: Turn off your tablet Cover Type Surface and external displays to see if this is what prevents the automatic rotation of the screen.
Step 2: Check whether the automatically rotates when you turn the Surface tablet screen.
If the screen is not broken automatically, try Solution 2.

Solution 2:
If the screen does not rotate automatically, automatic configuration can be locked in one position. Here's how to unlock it:

Step 1: Scroll quickly from the right of the screen and then tap Settings edge.
(If using a mouse, position the cursor in the upper right corner of the screen, the mouse pointer down and click Settings).
Step 2: Touch or click Display, and then click the icon on the screen brightness slider to unlock the automatic rotation.
Tap the Settings icon screen.
Step 3: The screen icon includes a padlock when automatic rotation is locked. The screen will not rotate when you change the orientation of Surface.
The icon display when automatic rotation is locked
Step 4: Reconnect the Type of Surface Cover, close it and check if the screen rotates automatically when you turn your Surface.
notes
The rotation of the Surface screen automatically locks when the Type of Surface Cover is connected in typing position.
If the rotation settings Surface screen is not locked, close the Type Surface Cover your tablet allows the screen to rotate automatically (unless the Surface orientation setting is locked).
If the Surface screen is in portrait orientation when you connect your Type of Surface Cover or an external display, the screen will rotate to landscape orientation automatically, even when automatic rotation is locked.
If the auto rotate is still not working after unlocking function, try Solution 3.
