The Samsung Galaxy S4 was launched in 2013, but its features are still capable of supporting the advance that the functions and applications have had to this day. This device has 2 GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 600 processor and, at least, 16 GB of internal storage; we would believe that these specifications are sufficient to meet our expectations on a tight budget.

However, when the operating system begins to present problems with: the speed of movement between tabs, when opening applications, to take photos or record videos, with the load that lasts nothing, among others; So, we understand that it is not worth it like that. Fortunately, there is a solution for all these problems and it is through formatting or hard reset .

Methods

We have three methods to factory restore our Samsung Galaxy S4. Before proceeding with any of them, we have to take something very important into account.

A format or hard reset will erase all the files and data stored in the internal memory of the device. That is, the downloaded photos, videos, contacts, messages, settings and applications. This is why we should make a backup before executing a factory restore . This backup, as it is better known, can be done in the cloud, with an external storage memory (MicroSD) or by moving the files to a hard disk through a USB cable.

As a precaution, before starting, we must remove both the SIM card and the MicroSD , in case we have. Now, we only have to try one of the methods detailed below to factory restore our smartphone.

Hard reset (button combination)

This form is more complete than the others and is used, above all, when we cannot interact with the main screen or with the menus of the device in question; It is done through the Android recovery menu, which is accessed by holding down, with a combination, the buttons.

  1. We turn off the device, either from the operating system interface or by removing and inserting the battery.
  2. Press and hold, first and at the same time, the " Volume up " and " Start " buttons (the one in the center), then, without delay, we also press the " Power " button . It also works by pressing the " Volume Up " + " Power " button .
  3. When the device vibrates, we only release the " On / Off " button.
  4. The Android recovery menu will appear and we can stop pressing the other two buttons.
  5. With " Volume up " and " Volume down " we move through the menu and with " On / off " we confirm the selection.
  6. Now, we move to the option " Wipe data / factory reset ".
  7. A screen will appear with many " No ", but there will be an option between them that says " Yes - delete all user data ", we move to it and confirm.
  8. After confirming, the hard reset process to our Samsung Galaxy S4 will have started. When it has finished restoring, a text will appear at the bottom that says “ Data wipe complete “.
  9. Finally, we select the option " Reboot system now ".

This would be it, our Galaxy S4 will have been successfully restored from the factory, and we would only have to configure everything as if we had just bought it.

From the settings

If we can access the settings menu of our phone, then it is recommended to choose this option, because it is the most intuitive.

Tip: if the touch of the device does not respond or the screen stays locked, we have to press the " On / Off " button for 7 seconds; it will restart and then we put our pattern or PIN code. Now yes, let's follow the directions.

  1. In the event that we can access the applications menu, we enter and then press " Settings ".
  2. Once we are in " Settings ", several submenus will appear, we select " Accounts ".
  3. From here, we go to the end and enter " Backup and Restore ".
  4. At the bottom of the new window, we will have an option called " Factory data reset ", we choose it.
  5. A text will be displayed that warns us that everything will be erased from the device, we simply confirm by pressing the button below " Reset device ".

When we have pressed the last button described, the formatting process will start to our Galaxy S4. When it is restarted for the first time, the configuration wizard will appear, which will help us to configure the language, the network settings and the pattern or password.

Speed Dial

This is the easiest and fastest method (in the case of the Samsung S4) to do a factory reset. We just have to dial this code in the calling application: * 2767 * 3855 #

But watch out. When the call button is pressed, the device will begin to format without asking for any confirmation . That is why, we must be careful and check that we have previously made a backup.
