PUPs (potentially unwanted programs) are programs offered during the installation of free software, in most cases.
In general, these PUPs are toolbars that modify the configuration of Web browsers (homepage and search engine .)
Examples: Searchqu / Bandoo or seearch.com . Usually these programs are installed by users without knowing what they hide behindAfter changing the configuration of your computer, you will look back to the old configuration but can not (or will have difficulty do) because the PUPs often force the appearance of your pages as home pages (this generates traffic and income). Methods of propagation of PUPs:

  • through free programs
  • Sponsored by search engines links. These sponsored links should be avoided, almost always treated scams.
  • through download sites created to distribute free software repackaged to adding these PUPs.
  • through false update messages programs such false plugins for VLC streaming sites.

Therefore, users should pay attention to what you install on your PC and read the additional programs offered installed during installation.
It is advisable to refuse to install any additional software.
The installation of any program can have consequences in the operation of the PC as it can generate bugs.Further accumulation of installed programs (which tend to be launched when the PC) slows down your computer. It is noteworthy that some antivirus as Avast! and AVG detected default PUPs therefore have to activate this function in these antivirus. However, we must always be vigilant because an antivirus can not detect all these potentially unwanted programs.

In Avast!

  • Go to "REAL-TIME SHIELDS> File System Shield". In the right pane, click "Advanced"
  • In the window that opens, click "Sensitivity" and check the box next to "Scan for potentially unwanted programs (PPDs)"

In AVG

To enable detection of potentially dangerous programs:

  • Go to the "Tools> Advanced"
  • Open the "Analysis" menu and select "Full Scan and contextual analysis"
  • Activa "Report potentially dangerous spywares programs and" and "Pointing potentially dangerous programs improved game"

A little more about safety

Finally, once again ask you to have very careful when installing programs because you could install an adware unintentionally and see flooded untimely advertising windows. As far as possible, review the conditions of use during the installation of programs to make sure that no additional programs are installed.WOT is a supplement that can help you filter out sites that install these types of unwanted programs, see here For added protection PC, see here
