I also have a desire and if you can delete the google play from the settings menu in section I want and what applications uninstall. This returns you to the first version of the market, but after a while it gets to upgrade to google play.

The HTC Desire has s-on, you can not desistalar system applications without s-off or flashing rom without these files series.
