Boot To Safe Mode

  1. While the phone is off, press and hold the Power button.
  2. When the Samsung Galaxy S3 screen appears, release the Powerbutton.
  3. Immediately after releasing the button, press and hold theVolume Down key.
  4. Continue holding the Volume Down key until the phone finished restarting.
  5. 'Safe Mode' will be seen in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Clear Cache & Data

  1. While in Safe Mode, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Touch the Settings app.
  3. Tap More tab.
  4. Choose Application Manager.
  5. Swipe right to display All tab's contents.
  6. Find TouchWiz.
  7. Tap Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons. (NOTE: You will lose all your customizations in your Home screens but it's worth it)
  8. Reboot the phone normally.

Observe if the error message still pops up. If it does, follow the next procedure.

Wipe Cache Partition

  1. Turn the phone off.
  2. Press and hold the Volume UpHome and Power buttons simultaneously.
  3. Once the phone vibrates, release the Power button but continue holding the other two buttons.
  4. Release the Volume Up and Home buttons when the Android System Recovery screen appears.
  5. Highlight 'wipe cache partition' and press the Power button.
  6. Once done, highlight the 'reboot system now' options and press the Power button.

That should do it, but in case it won't, the last resort is to perform Factory Reset. You need to backup your data first.

Have an S4...went all the way to the last option with no luck!  Calling Verizon and Samsung before doing factory reboot.  Thanks for the help!
by
My daughter had this problem with her S4 as well  so gave her a ring and told her what to do and her phone is working fine so needless to say she is very pleased. Many thanks Sumo
by
Did both for my Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 but didn't work though due for a new phone in a few days
by
The option that worked for me was to turn off ALL of the motion settings...TouchWiz started working correctly immediately.
by
This also worked on Verizon S4
by
Yooooo!!!!!!!!!!! Good looking out on the tip!! This worked. You don't know how many blogs I read, which lead to fails! lol

Thanks
by
The same here, but it was a blessing in disguise because I was finally able to clean up and rearange my apps on the individual screens.
by
Super solution for Galaxy Note 3. I tried clear TouchWiz Home cache and data. It did not work. Your solution works! Thank you very much.
by
Amazing!!! If I could kiss you I would!! This has bugged the crap out of me! Just done what you've said and it works now!! Thank you! Genius :)
by
It worked!  none of the other stuff did.
by
Turing off motions fixed my phone as well
by
After much frustrations with my S4 over this TouchWiz issue and reading through many blogs on "how to fix" the issue... this is the only place I found the most simple and absolutely perfect answer - - turn off gestures.  It works.  I was one step away from a total reset of the phone.  Thank you so much
by
You are amazing. Thanks it has worked by switching off the motion gestures :)
by
Didn't work after clearing cache and data, so
turned off motion and gestures and it worked
by
clearing data and cache worked for galaxy core...!
by
Turning off the touch motion worked for me!  Thank you.  I really did not want to do a reset.  This was much easier.
by
It worked for me too thank you
by
Thanks for the tip. It really worked :-)
by
Tried clearing cache, nothing.  Turned off motion and gestures and it worked!!!

Thank you!!!
by

Hello. To me unfortunately touchwiz home has stopped has also happened to me. The solution I've taken is: drag down the top bar, tap the settings icon, and select Simple Mode menu mode home screen. Once there, put back the screens to your liking. Works just like before, and we will just wait for a new software update.

by
I was messing around with the lcd and when I tried to reboot my s4 active to errors keep popping up com.android.system has stopped and touchwiz home has stopped with a black screen please help
by
lollipop touchwiz keeps crashing
by
My touchwiz has stopped working after  i updated it yesterday - I've tried all the solutions mentioned here but nothing has worked - i really don't want to  factory reset my phone - any other options?
by
I went through all of the above and then some to try and fix the error issue on my S4  but this finally worked for me!!!

I had the same problem with my GS III. I did the live chat with Samsung and the problem was fixed. Here is what they said to do

Go to: Settings/Application manager/All
Once there tap the menu button and hit "Reset app preferences"
A new box will pop up - hit "Reset apps"
After I did this, no more "Unfortunately....stopped" message!
Additionally, it kept all the settings just like I had them before, no need to refigure everything like you do when clearing the cache!
Hope this helps someone

Lest you appear more at the beginning of the phone, you must delete the data from the application.
Enter Settings-> More-> Application Manager
Position yourself on the All tab.
Search the Start Touchwiz within the program and press the button "Clear Data".

With that will not show more the problem.

greetings To You,
by
Did all recommended above nothing worked. S4. The only option factory reset but I don't want to do it.
by
this worked for my S4 got my home screen back as it was before the update 2 weeks ago thanks

Sun times the experience with the transition from Android 4.4 to Android Lollipop Kit Kat 5.0.1 with a Samsung Galaxy S4.
It looked good at first, but then settled move any apps on the screen, or add new widgets. Each time the error "TouchWiz Start stopped", ie the Laucher from Samsung.
All the tricks from the Internet did not help, such as:
1.) The app S-Planner disable
2.) Switch to simple mode of TouchWiz,
3.) TouchWiz start in application Manager he stop and delete data,
4.) Developer disable options.

The only thing that really helped was a hardware reset, ie reset to factory setting. This means that all arrangements and loaded apps will be deleted.
So before important to back up everything in the Google account and take screenshots of your app arrangements, so you afterwards know what everything was as furnished.
After the fresh start you can see then that all symbols "clean" look and some apps when backing up non-restoring s because they are not compatible with the version. Example: AppMonster

Turn off the Samsung Galaxy S4 and remove the battery cover. Then, remove the battery and wait about five minutes until you einstezen him again and restart the phone.
by
After tweaking and resetting all things in "My Device" lo and behold, I now have touchwiz working. Hurrah. Sorry, I cannot tell you exactly which tweak did the trick, but go give it a try, maybe you will be successful in pinpointing the culprit.

Model: Samsumg S4 GT-I9505 with Lolipop 5.0.1 (upgrade OTA from kitkat 4.4.2)
by
Go to settings-more-default applications  and set touchwiz to easy home. Open with this as the default then go back and reset  touchwiz to touchwiz home. Worked for me on Galaxy S4.
by
In order to "stopped Touch Wiz" error message on the Samsung Galaxy S3 rid of proceeds from the home screen, click Menu -> Settings -> Developer options. This must now be disabled. Android Jelly Bean, this is quite easy on the Samsung Galaxy S3, since you have to provide only the slider all the way up to the developer options "On" to "Off" now.
by
Tried all above tricks:
1) The app S-Planner disable
2.) Switch to simple mode of TouchWiz,
3.) TouchWiz start in application Manager he stop and delete data,
4.) Developer disable options
5) clear cache and clear data.

none of above works.  But after spending a hour chaging the setting, I found the following worked in my situation for my S4:

Setting/my device/Air View,  turn off all the view under this option.

Good luck.
by
I've tried all of the above with no success. This started on both my and my husband's Galaxy S4 phones after updatung a couple of days ago - I'm assuming to Lollipop. Any more help?
by
Agree with Osky.  I tried all options recommended...safe boot, cache wipe and was looking at the last option of a factory reset when all you need to do is drag the top bar down and go into setting and change simple mode to standard.
by
I have a Samsung S4 and changing some of the settings under "My Device" fixed my issue I think turning my motion settings off is what did the trick, but if that doesn't do it then I would tweek some of the other options under My Device and see if that helps!
by
Yeah tweeked the motion settings and cured it
by
Your awesome!  Nothing worked, until your comment!!  THANKS!
by
Yes, motion setting is the solution!!!!!! Many Thanks, who would have thought!!!
by
omg, thank you so much it was the motion settings that was causing this error.  Thank you so much  :)
by
I have done all the steps clear the catches at touchwiz home or go in safe mode n clean the catches nuthib worked I finally figured it out if you have knox app from samsung installed on ur phone it will block moving anything on the touchwiz home so what I did I logged into it and went to the knox setting uninstalled it tried again to move apps it worked !!! None of the stuff above helped out but I hope my solution works out fr everyone
by
This worked for me too! Such an easy fix since I didn't want to go thru the whole reboot. Suggestion to change Motion and Gestures to off in the settings worked great for my Verizon galaxy s4.  TouchWiz working perfectly
by
Thanks, Sumo!  This worked for me too:   None of that worked. I went to the motions and gestures and just turned everything off (I don't use any of it) and voila! My Touchwiz Home is back to being functional.
by
Yes, the clear cache and data worked for me too.
Thanks

drag down the top bar, click the Settings icon, and choose the easy way in menu mode home screen. Once there, put back the screens to your liking. It works as before, and we will just wait for a new software upgrade.
by
Partial factory reset: * # * # 7780 # * # *
It deletes the following:
-The Settings of your Google account on your phone
-Settings System and applications
- Applications downloaded in SD (downloaded, not installed)
No deleted:
-The Software and applications have instaladas- SD files.
by
Thank you! Turning off motions & gestures worked for me on my galaxy4.
by
I have been having this issue since the Lollipop upgrade came through shortly after AT&T released it!  I had the Air View and Air Gesture toggles disabled in the drop-down, but this time I went into Settings and into the menu for each one and disabled any that were enabled, and now I can finally move, add, and remove icons and widgets again!  I did not even clear the TouchWiz data, so I didn't lose my desktop layout either.  Thank you!!!
by
many many  thank yous!
by
After wiping the cache and cache partition I found I only had to turn off motion under motions and gestures on my S4. I'm ok with wiping the cache and resetting my screens and other stuff though, after a few years my phone was probably due. It will probably perform better now, computers do.

by
Thank you very much. I have had so many problems since my Galaxy S4 updated to Lollipop this morning, but this has done the trick for me too.
by
After 3 other (suggested) tries & many on my own previously, m & g's worx 4 me!!! Forgot the settings were even on...so many little foxes to spoil the vine! hahaha! Living large now, moving apps & widgets at will on my S4 - HALLELUJIAH (hallelujiah), (hallelujiah)...can u hear the choir singing?  ;-)
by
Wow that was sweet! I tried 2 of the options above clearin data and cache in safe mode and wipe the data cache in system reboot mode and neither of them worked. Then i saw that post about turning the motion gestures off and it worked! Awesome!! thank you! this was starting to piss me off!

Went to the Verizon store for assistance, where some dumbass put a bunch of worthless Google crap on my phone to mask the problem. The whole thing was totally hosed after that. Gave up and started searching the internet and found this page and followed the instructions to Boot to Safe Mode, clear cache, etc. and no change. Finally found the motions and gestures comments and turned that off and it fixed the problem. This on a 2yr old Galaxy S4. Oh, and FYI, all this happened when I did the Android OS updates a couple of days ago - May 3 or 4, 2015.

Thanks for the great new features Google! The ones I especially liked were the ones that have so far caused me two trips to Verizon and several hours searching the internet and trying to setup my phone all over again.
by
Turning off motion and gestures fixed it for me too.  S4 on Tesco Mobile
by
It started after the latest update for me too, Galaxy S4 Tmobile.  Tried the above steps, didn't work, so I also went to turn off motions and gestures but they were already off so that didn't help me either. :(  I still have the error popping up.  It might be because my phone is near full?  Donno

Galaxy note 3.  Clearing Cache and Data did NOT work. Installed Galaxy S Launcher, had to set up my preferred screens again but works a treat..
by
Go to Settings-->My Device--->Motions and Gestures-->Turn Off everything. It works and you don't see the message again
by
Thank you for the suggestion to turn off Motions and Gestures. Saved me from some drastic measures.
by
Thank you for the suggestion of turning off the motions, it worked after all else failed.Pity Samsung cannot get its act together before releasing faulty upgrades.
by
the TouchWiz conflicts with many applications and system changes us to go doing based on the use we give to the device, apart from the amount of resources it consumed absurd so to have the system recharged active processes or applications is easier that this error (this is due to restart the device that this error tends disappear for a while) and at least until KitKat it has no other solution to mount a clean rom and "reshuffle" I understand that lollipop is a bit more stable and yields fewer mistakes, I am user of a Note 3 and TouchWiz definitely can be a real headache for the fluidity of the team, a high-end with 3 gigs of RAM and a 4-core processor 2.3 this throwing such errors each time is simply

I have a S4, tried both fixes to no avail. Turned off all motions and gestures, and wham! It worked!

There is no need to clear caches or reset anything, simply:-

Go to Settings --> My Device --> Motions and Gestures --> Turn Everything Off

Once this is done you'll have solved your Touchwiz problem.
by
Thanks guys turning off motions and gestures worked for my S4 .
by
Turning off motions and gestures worked for my S4 (Sprint) as well.
by
Turning off motions and gestures worked for my S4 too (unfortunately, like others I'd not read through all the comments and so did the clear cache etc first...
by
Just turning off motions did it for me. So nice to be able to arrange my apps again. Thank you!! (S4)
by
i already do not have motions and gestures turned on and none of the solutions has worked for me...
by
After i done the factory reset I still get unfortunately settings has stopped and won’t let me go any further so basically my s5 is nothing more than a paper weight

Well, I passed through all the answers regarding this problem, I had tried almost all of them, but it did not work out for,  I even the technician at best buy reset the system but after a while touch wiz home unfortunately stopped working in every move, pops up again,he said sure he can't do anything more.  so, at home I did the following and touch wiz home stopped poping for good
So I would like to tell you what to do.
Go to system setting>more>'application manager>scroll to turned off, and turn all apps ON.Now restart your mobile.
From now on you will never see touch wiz home poping again.
