Well I have a problem with linux, what happens is that when I want to run some commands in the terminal as: locate, ifconfig, among others, in the terminal appears to me "command not found" then I wonder if there is any way q you can add commands I can do.
I hope you can help me. Thanks ....

may simply not appear that you do not have execute permissions or should do it as root.

example: ubuntu 8.04 on the command you mentioned,
ifconfig
works for me normally, you can now if you are in Debian, happened to me, I can only run it as root:

su -
password:> do not see what you write <
ifconfig

on the other hand know that more help gnu-linux distribution you are using.

for root pass, or you can usually try:

sudo su
or
su -

Greetings.

It is not normal what you order, but you can add "alias". An alias is called dir on the command ls, will result in the write dir ls lists the files you run, you would have to configure the console to work with windows commands, although it is advisable to learn Linux commands directly.
Any doubt alias $ man

Of course, that often happens for user settings to run commands normally correct it the full path of the command that is by default:

/ sbin / command, for example:

rather than locate, -> / sbin / locate
instead of ifconfig -> / sbin / ifconfig

this works on any user even root, but some only require you to be root, but you can also modify it.
etc.

Eye linux are not simple as a dirty trick called windows ... need to know well're setting q and q will you do archiver q going to change ...

all be lucky ....
